Description
In our view, the legendary Vespa Rusty Nail remains a milestone in scooter and service history, even though we only provided technical support to the creator Martien Delfgaauw (Berham Customs) during the development phase of this custom Vespa from 2005 onwards.
After many years, the Rusty Nail is back in our workshop for a general technical upgrade...
The new engine for the Rusty Nail also has its own story:
This setup was created in 2016 - we fitted the Quattrini 244cc cylinder, which was still quite new on the market at the time, with an aluminum bushing, turned it down and had it recoated in order to be able to install one of our 60mm reed valve crankshafts, which were very proven at that time.
Ultimately, this engine sat on the shelf for many years and is now being used for the first time together with the new Scooter & Service M244 right-hand exhaust and a 28mm PWK carburetor...
...and helps the Rusty Nail achieve a peak output of around 40 hp at the rear wheel!
